Earlier this summer I got back into designing ked-like sneakers. The first pair I made, a couple of summers ago was by finger painting. I took acrylic paints, covered my finger tips in them and created splotches of paint all over using acrylic and then letting them dry overnight. The next few pair were done in the same vein but I doubled up on colors going from using only 4 colors to about 8 on each sneaker. (gym shoe if you’re from Chicago, and tennis shoe if from DC, lol) I then made a pair covered in different types of buttons, tiny poms poms and little pink hearts and gold stars….This summer I started what you see up top. I’ve made 5 pair total, one for myself, another for my boyfriend, and the last three for friends. The latest technique I’ve been using is “splatter paint” or “Jackson Pollock” esque design. That’s what you see above. Those were made for my friend Lisa. I’m taking acrylic paint, and using the tips of color pencils (that’s what’s lying around the house) and slinging the paint on to the shoe. Above is the final result.
